Do Sleep Aids Promote Weight Loss? - August 6th, 2010

There are many different studies out there, and there is a new breed of sleep aids emerging that also claim to help you to burn away fat and lose more weight as you sleep! They say that their formulas have more ingredients that can help you to sleep and then wake up refreshed and ready to go. They say that they have clinically proven fat burners, appetite suppressants, and other completely stimulant free alternatives meant to provide you with superior results. Bu the question is, how does it work?

There was a study recently put out on sleep and weight loss. It found that the difference between obesity and a healthy weight is a mere 1 hour in sleep! Those who got less sleep were typically under more stress, did not allow their bodies to recuperate at that level, were less active during the day, etc, which is all of course related to the weight factor. But sleep is a time when your body naturally rebuilds and recuperates.

Obviously, sleeping one hour more per night will not magically help you to lose weight or get that thin or healthy body that you want. There are many other aspects to it. Sleep just helps you to get to those points. And by proxy, you will find that many sleep aids can help you to get to that point. But of course, you should also focus on diet, exercise, and healthier life habits as a whole in order to achieve better weight loss results and lasting weight loss impressions on your body.

Myths About Male Enhancement - February 18th, 2010

Male enhancement is an interesting thing. It’s something we so often think about, and we believe that it is so many different things. But when it comes to male enhancement, you do have to be realistic, and you do have to ask, how much of it is actually true? How much can male enhancement pills in general actually do?

Now of course, there is the part about enhancing penis size or increasing penis size. That is the biggest myth out there. Without a surgery or otherwise implant, there is no way to even temporarily increase the size of the penis. A penis pump is temporary at best, and realistically, products like Enzyte for example are playing on the idea that you don’t know what you are looking for or talking about for that matter.

However, this is not to say that male enhancement pills like Enzyte are completely useless. You just have to know what to expect. Another major myth is that only prescriptions work, that because they are not technically FDA approved, over the counter products like Enzyte don’t work. This being said, obviously enough, there are proven ingredients that are natural, and generally it seems that those prescriptions that are FDA approved are so because they are potentially dangerous and need to be controlled.

But this also does not mean that all natural supplements like Enzyte for example would actually show results. By no means does it mean that. The simple fact is that realistically, many natural supplements don’t work. While there are proven ingredients, products like Enzyte don’t bother using the right amounts.

So this being said, I would recommend a natural male enhancement product known as Orexis. Orexis has all the right ingredients, the right amounts. It is clinically proven, and unlike many prescriptions, Orexis is safe. So obviously enough, there are options out there if you know where to find them.

Symptoms of Depression - September 25th, 2009

Are you experiencing a loss of interest in normal daily activities? Have you noticed that you are feeling sad or down? Do you feel hopeless or cry for no apparent reason? When people get depressed they might have problems sleeping, trouble focusing or concentrating, you might have difficulty making decisions. There is the potential for sudden weight gain or a significant amount of weight loss. When I was going through some depression a few years back, I was irritable, restless, easily annoyed. I felt weak and was easily fatigued. Being depressed makes it very easy to feel worthless.

I lost all interest in sex and had frequent thoughts of suicide. My friends and family were extremely worried about me and decided I needed some help. I checked into an out patient program that offered one on one therapy as well as group therapy. Sometimes in life we get overwhelmed and don’t feel like we can get over that hump or bump in the road. There are a lot of good anti-depressants out there that can help as well. If you are experiencing any of the above symptoms, you should really look into getting help, either from therapy or at least talking to your doctor about different anti-depressants.

Postpartum Depression - September 25th, 2009

Some people, after giving birth, have what’s called postpartum depression. Pregnancy actually causes an amazing, but stressful, transformation in the female body, especially with circulation. Blood flow changes during this time due to the added needs of the baby. In fact, the amount of blood in a woman’s body almost doubles. Hormones, which add elasticity to the mother’s body while pregnant, also weaken and can stretch the veins. When you have postpartum depression it generally peaks 3-5 days after delivery and can last from several days to 2 weeks.

In case you are wondering if you are experiencing the blues, here are some of the following symptoms: first of all a depressed mood, some tearfulness, the inability to enjoy fun activities that you used to enjoy, trouble sleeping, fatigue, possible appetite problems, suicidal thoughts, feelings of inadequacy as a parent, and the inability to concentrate. Hormone imbalances are probably why women get the blues after delivering their baby. It’s a good idea to check with your doctor to get help if you are feeling particularly depressed after having your baby.

Seasonal Affective Disorder - September 19th, 2009

I was diagnosed with seasonal affective disorder last year. It won’t surprise you to know that it was because I lived in Seattle. I bought a bright light that was designed to have you sit in front of it for several minutes throughout the day. It was a great way to boost my feelings of happiness. The typical symptoms of SAD include depression, lack of energy, increased need for sleep, and a craving for sweets and weight gain. That’s exactly what happened to me. I gained more than 30 pounds over the few years that I lived there.

I recently moved from Seattle to Utah where it is sunny a good majority of the time. I started losing weight immediately because I no longer craved sweets, I felt like I had more energy, which allowed me to start exercising. My mood totally lightened up and I felt 100% better. As I mentioned before I bought a light therapy box type light of 10,000-lux and I was able to use it up to 30 minutes per day. The truth is, nothing beats the sunlight. I would recommend using a light box if you live in a place that doesn’t get much sun. It will help you with your depression.

Extremes Of Depression - September 14th, 2009

I’ve been seeing a therapist to help with my depression. In fact I just had a four hour session yesterday that kicked my butt. We were talking about my all or nothing type personality. I have this problem where I either do something all of the way or I don’t do it at all. For example, eating- I will eat and eat all day long or I will starve myself and not eat anything. If I decide I want to exercise, I will workout for hours and hours each day, or I won’t even get off the couch. How do I find that happy medium? I am so terrified of failing that I push myself to exhaustion. What my therapist told me to do is write down my goals and ways in which I can reach those goals. Instead of eating all day long, I made a goal to only eat when I was hungry, and then I would only eat half of the food on my plate. When it comes to exercise I am now choosing a workout regimen that lasts an hour, that way I’m not trying to do yoga, run  hike, bike, and go to the gym all in the same day. Everything in moderation!

Alcohol as a Depressant - September 13th, 2009

Alcohol is considered to be a depressant. If you think it makes things better you are mistaken. You might be depressed and think, oh a drink will help, and it may boost your spirits for a little while, but eventually the alcohol wears off and you are worse for wear. The more you drink the more you are going to feel like you need to drink to get through the day. At one point in my life I was waking up and immediately reaching for the bottle of wine.

By noon I had finished off the bottle, I would fall asleep and wake up more depressed than ever. If you are turning to alcohol to drown your sorrows, there are other ways to do that. First thing you need to do, or what I did, was stop drinking. Second, try and get some exercise. Just walking 30 minutes a day can alleviate a lot of those feelings of depression. It’s difficult to be around people when they are depressed, so if you are struggling, maybe it’s time to go and see a therapist. Getting on anti-depressants may be just what the doctor ordered. I think we all experience a little depression once in a while, it’s ok.

Pets Help With Depression - September 11th, 2009

Do you live alone and find that it’s very easy to get depressed? We weren’t meant to live alone, be alone all of the time, and not have some type of connection with something. When I started feeling depressed I realized it was because I was feeling lonely. I would go home after work to an empty house, cook dinner by myself, for myself only, and then flip on the tv. One day after work I stopped by the grocery store to pick up some food and there were some beautiful black Labrador puppies for sale. I thought to myself, oh, I can’t get a puppy, they’re too much work, too much responsibility.

They need to be walked, bathed, fed and cared for. I thought to myself,  it would be fun to have a pet, but  I just don’t think I have the energy. I went in the store, bought my groceries and on the way out, I stopped one last time to see the darling little babies. One of the little pups caught my eye, so I picked her up. That was all there was to it, I had to get her. I’ve had her a few weeks, and it has changed my life. I am so much happier and obviously less lonely.

Helping a Loved One Through Depression - September 10th, 2009

Do you have a family member or a really good friend that is struggling with depression? Are they miserable? Do you find it difficult to be around them because they are irritable, unhappy, or angry? The worst thing you can do is avoid that person. The first thing we should all do is read up on depression. What does it mean? What are some of the symptoms? hat can we do to help someone that is depressed? Here is what I’ve found out.

I would suggest to the family member or friend that it might be a good idea to make an appointment to see a doctor or psychologist. You might even need to call for them and make the appointment. Offer to drive them to the appt and suggest to them that if they have any questions for the doctor they should write them down as they come up and bring the questions along. Let your loved one know that you are there for them, that you love them, and know that they are going through a difficult time. Be available to listen if they want to talk about anything. Invite them to go on a walk, anything to get out of the house.

Treating Depression With Vegetables - September 9th, 2009

Ok let’s talk about how vegetables can help you get out of that depressed mood. I just recently learned that broccoli and spinach are natural anti-depressants. I wish I would have known that a few years ago when I was struggling with a bout of depression. Because they contain high amounts of vitamin B9 or folic acid, they work as a great mood stabilizer. Eating tons of broccoli and spinach is great and all, but, I think there are other things we can do as well.

For example, are you getting enough sleep? Apparently, sleep deprivation can cause people to become very depressed. I know when I don’t get enough sleep I become extremely irritable and that usually turns into depression. No one likes being around an irritable, depressed person. Are you exercising at all? This is one of the natural ways you can break out of that darkness. Because exercise helps you lose weight, you will become more confident and feel better about yourself, thus making it easier to be happy and content. It’s a good idea to look at the reason or reasons that you may be depressed. If you are in a terrible relationship, maybe it’s time to find a new one.
